Ravichandran Ashwin Becomes No.1 Test Bowler, Topples James Anderson

A veteran Indian off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Wednesday jumped to the top of the most recent ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings and replaced England pacer James Anderson. Ashwin was crowned the number one place after taking six wickets during India’s crushing triumph in the second Test against Australia at the end of the 2nd Test at New Delhi. Anderson fell to second position after England’s devastating defeat against New Zealand in the Wellington Test. At 36, Ashwin first took the highest honours for Test bowlers in the year 2015 and has been back to the top position in the past.

Ashwin took big wickets during India’s victory at Dehli, taking out Marnus Labuschagne as well as Steve Smith in the same as the first over before returning to catch Alex Carey for a duck.

The off spinner was in the game in the second innings and picked up 3 of his top 5 wickets, while his spin-bowling partner Ravindra Jadeja smashed through the remaining Australia batters from the opposite side.
