UP Warriorz name Alyssa Healy as captain

Australia opening Alyssa Shealy will be captain of the WPL the team UP Warriorz at the inaugural edition of the tournament , which will begin March 4. Healy is one of six players from overseas for Warriorz and was selected as team captain in place of Deepti Sharma. Sharma comes from UP.

“The WPL is a tournament we’ve been eagerly anticipating as well. UP Warriorz have a fantastic team that is eager to make the headlines as soon as things begin to take off,” Healy said in an announcement by Warriorz. “We are a great mixture of youth and experience as well as talent and are looking forward to putting an impressive performance for our supporters. We’re determined to be successful and uncompromising in our style in cricket.”

Healy has been a winner of she has won five T20 World Cups (2010, 2012, 2014and 2018 as well as 2020) and also her first ODI World Cup in New Zealand in the year before. She has achieved 2446 T20I runs with the rate of 128 and has scored a 100 and 14 semi-centuries. Healy played for the Australia T20I team in India last week, after regular captain Meg Lanning had taken off from playing. Healy also played for the Sydney Sixers in the WBBL.

“Alyssa is a major in the sport and has a wealth of experience at the highest levels and has the winning mindset that we are looking for to have in our team,” Rajesh Sharma, managing director of Capri Globals, who own Warriorz as well, told. “We are hopeful that UP Warriorz can make significant progress in this crucial adventure under the guidance of Alyssa Healy. She will become an source of happiness and motivation for women in UP.”

Five other players from overseas who are part of the Warriorz team include Sophie Ecclestone, Tahlia McGrath, Shabnim Ismail, Grace Harris and Lauren Bell. Some of the most famous Indian names that are part of them aside from Deepti they include Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Devika Vaidya, Anjali Sarvani and Kiran Navgire.

The Warriorz team will be led by England’s Jon Lewis, along with Anju Jain as the assistant coach, along with Ashley Noffke the bowling coach. World Cup winner Lisa Sthalekar is the team’s mentor.

Warriorz will kick off with their WPL campaign on March 5on Sunday, when they play Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Five teams will take on the other teams twice in eight league matches, and then an Eliminator matches will take place between teams finishing third and second. Winners of the Eliminator will face the table-toppers at the end of the 26th of March on Brabourne Stadium. Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
